A comprehensive cyber safety awareness initiative unfolded 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝟰𝟰 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟳𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝟴, 𝟵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟬 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗶 𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗧𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗸𝘂𝗿𝘂 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁.

𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝟯𝟱𝟬 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 from the ISBR Business School these sessions were conducted in collaboration with implementation partner LetsTagOn Foundation and India Literacy Project.

Cyber Safety, as emphasized by this initiative, entails the responsible use of the Internet to ensure the safety and security of personal information, without posing a threat to others’ data.

The ISBR Business School campaign achieved this by conducting activity-based sessions, making children cognizant of potential threats to personal safety and information security risks.

Additionally, students were educated on how to handle and mitigate the impact if they fall victim to a cyber-attack.

With an indirect impact on over 30,000 individuals, children were encouraged to extend awareness to their families and friends through distinctive post-session activities.

The endeavor received support from DIET Tumukuru under their flagship initiative, the District Educational Transformation Program (DETP).

On January 24th, India Literacy Project inaugurated an Early Childhood Education program in Dindigul District, supported by the 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (https://ramanujams.org/), and 𝗚𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 (https://gandhigram.org/).

The collaborative effort aims to enhance the role of government Anganwadis in childhood education through a pilot project. Tmt. C. Poongadi, the District Programme Officer for *𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 (𝗜𝗖𝗗𝗦), officially launched the initiative, emphasizing a commitment to transform government school centers into vibrant hubs of early childhood education.

Notable participants included Mr. M Baskaran, District Panchayat Chairman, Block Development Officers, Community Development Program officers for Athur and Palani, Panchayat Union Councillors, and Panchayat Presidents.

The project 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝟮𝟬 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻𝘄𝗮𝗱𝗶 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 10 each in Athoor and Palani blocks, with plans for future scaling based on progress.

𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟲𝟬𝟬 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝟯-𝟲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀.

The initiative integrates rigorous training, practical interventions, and mentorship to ensure success, with active support pledged by Anganwadi staff. The collaborative approach reflects a commitment to positive change in early childhood education and may serve as a model for future endeavors.

The initiative emphasized the importance of science in shaping the future, incorporating scientific learning and the creation of innovations propelled by scientific advancements.

The senior leadership of Verizon was present at the event which reflected the commitment to fostering a passion for scientific education among students by starting them young.

This comprehensive program facilitates proactive career planning for high school and higher secondary students.

The initiative focuses on providing self-discovery resources for students in grades 9 and 10, enabling them to plan their career paths.

As part of the program, India Literacy Project delivers Career Guidance Kits comprising a career chart and planners for students to navigate through their educational journey.

A significant aspect of the initiative involves a self-discovery workbook tailored for students, enhancing their awareness of various career options.

On January 6, 2024, Infosys Foundation distributed tablets to 10 government schools in Tumakuruand and Madhugiri educational districts as part of the District Education Transformation Program (DETP).

In the seven Kalyana Karnataka districts of Karnataka, an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skilling program of remarkable scale and impact is unfolding, touching the lives of 2 lakh+ students in grades 8, 9 and 10 every year across 1,028 Government high schools.

What’s Behind this Radical Change?

This compelling shift is the result of a collaboration between Dell Technologies, the Education Department of State of Karnataka, and the NGO India Literacy Project (ILP) that aims to strengthen the future workforce with necessary digital literacy whilst enhancing their subject learning.

The Challenges of Incorporating ICT in Schools

The Karnataka Government has made significant progress in ICT skilling for high school students through its Technology Assisted Learning Program (TALP). The main goal of the program is to apply computer tools practically to enhance subject learning. Thousands of high schools in Karnataka now have Linux-based computer labs and follow NCERT’s “ICT in School Education” program. Teachers have received a mix of basic and advanced training on Linux and tools for subject-based learning.

While TALP is implemented only in select schools across all districts of Karnataka, in the Kalyana Karnataka region, almost all Government high schools have computer labs thanks to the support from the Kalyana Karnataka Development Board (KKDB).

However, there were challenges as listed below leading to suboptimal utilization of the lab infrastructure:

• Teachers struggled to find time to train students on tools before incorporating them into subject-based learning.
• Many teachers, being new to computers, found it challenging to become proficient with Linux and related tools.
• TALP aimed to involve all subject teachers, not just designated computer teachers, which was not consistently happening.
• Limited internet access and difficulties with offline tool installation resulted in missing software on most computers for learning.

Together Towards a Common Goal

Here’s where ILP stepped in, creating a comprehensive solution to tackle these challenges. ILP introduced a customized Ubuntu version pre-installed so that it doesn’t rely on internet access, saving time for teachers and creating a more interactive, independent environment for the students.

Forging a Path to Digital Independence

The game-changer was the introduction of a series of self-learning video modules in Kannada (the state’s primary language) for each ICT tool, effectively ensuring that English wouldn’t act as a barrier to learning. These self-learning videos were copied by the ILP team in all computers across the 1000+ schools for easy access without internet. The result? A classroom filled with empowered learners, independently exploring ICT tools, creating projects, and applying these skills to their everyday learning.

Boosting Confidence of Students and Teachers

The self-learning videos had the dual advantage of being both offline and flexible, allowing students to move at their own pace and build a confident repertoire of digital skills. Since the students could self-learn the tools, teachers could now focus on incorporating digital tools into their teaching without having to teach the basics first, making for more efficient use of classroom time.

Holistic Growth With Eye-On-Future

Complementing the computer skilling program, ILP also introduced a comprehensive Career Guidance program. This program equipped the students with the knowledge of various career options where they can exercise their newly acquired Computer skills, empowering them to make informed plans for their future.

Sustainable Impact

The approach taken in this initiative is scalable and sustainable. Along with the computer labs that are made available and maintained by the Government, the schools now also have the required self-learning resources and processes to continue skilling students independently, underlining the true essence of a sustainable model.

This program is an example of how innovation, collaborations, and vision can transform learning, empower future workforce, and create a meaningful impact in the education sector. It signals towards a brighter, empowered, and technologically skilled generation.

While there is still a lot more to do, with the support from Dell Technologies, activated computer labs in schools and confident teachers, the Government of Karnataka’s vision of ICT in school education and skilling the future workforce is confidently marching ahead in the right direction.

A meeting was convened at Junga High School, attended by Panchayat Level functionaries, including the Sarpanch, Headmasters of Schools, SMC members, and representatives from the Block Level Education office.

The RRO team presented a comprehensive report on the Child Labour situation in Keonjhar district, 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀/𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀, 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁, 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿.

Ongoing efforts aim to eliminate child labor from four other Gram Panchayats, with the goal of declaring them as child labor-free zones as well.

Over the course of his fifteen-year career within the NGO sector, Prasanna Mishra has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to various causes:

• He played a pivotal role in driving child-related initiatives in collaboration with our NGO partner, Rural Reconstruction Organization, Keonjhar, Orissa.
• Noteworthy contributions to pre-school education in partnership with @India Literacy Project.
• Active association with the State Level Network Odisha Alliance for Child Rights (OACR).
• Involvement in addressing diverse child-related issues alongside UNICEF and the Kailash Satyarthi Foundation.
• Taking a leading role in the campaign against child labor for the RRO Odisha chapter.
• Vigorous engagement at the district level with Sisuadhikar Manch.
• Collaborative efforts with Concern Worldwide on maternal and child health

Prasanna has been a driving force behind child-centric activities in mining and tribal areas, particularly with children of the Primitive Tribal Group (PTG), through the NGO RRO.

RRO, in conjunction with the Government of India’s Ministry of Labour and Employment, actively participates in the National Child Labour School Program (NCLP).

The Dr. P.C. Das award, named in honor of the renowned Odisha mathematician, recognizes individuals for their exceptional service in the field of child education.
